The Contractor continues blasting and rock removal from the North Shaft and has begun excavation for Pump Shaft and Wetwell Construction. Large equipment and trucks are active in the area while soil and rock is being hauled from the site.

Blasting and rock removal from the North Shaft has begun. The Contractor has begun bringing equipment and material to the site for Pump Shaft and Wetwell Construction. Large equipment and trucks are active in the area.

Excavation of soil at the North Shaft is complete and excavation of tunnel shaft will continue in rock. Large equipment and trucks are active in the area while soil is being hauled from the site.

For everyone’s safety, please stay outside construction boundaries, follow posted signs, and remain alert around construction traffic.

The Contractor has been working on drilling operations that will relocate to the south end of the construction site in a few weeks. The Contractor will participate in the Back-to-School Family Night and the Community Meeting scheduled for August 14, 2025 at Durkin Park Elementary School.

Sidewalk safety measures have been increased. With school starting soon, adults should be aware of closed sidewalks and project boundaries and talk to kids about the importance of respecting the restricted areas so that everyone stays safe.

Existing asphalt pavement of former traffic circles have been demolished and removed at the intersections of W 85th St and S Kedvale Ave, and W 84th St and S Komensky Ave. New asphalt pavement has been placed at each location.

The Contractor plans to mobilize large construction equipment during the first week of July 2025. Fence installation is complete.

Fencing, barriers, sidewalk closures and signage are in place to keep the public safe.
Pedestrians are requested to respect the Construction Project boundaries for everyone's safety.

Groundbreaking ceremony held at Chicago's Southwest Pumping Station on June 2, 2025. Permitting and tree trimming is complete; fencing is being installed and equipment is being mobilized. Work hours expected to be 7am to 5pm with no loud noises before 8am.
